The Bedford Police, Fire Dept and EMT Scholarship program

The Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation Bedford Scholarship program was established to provide financial assistance to children of Bedford, Katonah and Bedford Hills Police Officers, Firefighters and Emergency Medical Personnel, who plan on attending college. Andrew admired those who put their lives on the line to serve and protect our communities daily and also felt strongly that all children deserve the opportunity to receive a higher education. The AKD Foundation seeks to enhance higher education opportunities for qualified high school graduates who need financial assistance to achieve their greatest potential through a higher education.

To be eligible, the applicant needs to either be the child of an active member of the Bedford Police Department, the Bedford Fire Department, Bedford Hills Fire Department, the Katonah Fire Department or the Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps., with a minimum of three years of service or have personally served as a volunteer in the police, fire or ambulance departments.

The Foundation currently provides eight students with a four year partial college scholarships. The Foundation created this program in 2011, and it has been a wonderful success.
