The Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation was founded to provide opportunities that make a difference in young peoples' lives. Education was important to Andrew; in fact so important that Andrew had considered teaching after he graduated from College, and so the Foundation has made a significant commitment to educational institutions. We are currently supporting three independent schools, each focused on providing opportunities to the disadvantaged. Trustees of the Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation are individually committed at each of these schools providing their time and dedication in addition to the Foundation's support.

The Waterside School: Waterside is an independent school serving low-income children in Stamford, CT. To prepare the children who graduate Waterside to complete for positions new life experiences as part of their learning process at Waterside. The Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation had the opportunity to provide swim lessons to all the Waterside’s students, offering them one more life-long skill.

The East Harlem School at Exodus House: East Harlem School is an independent School in New York City that recruits children from families with low income and helps these students develop academic excellence, moral integrity, courtesy, and an unshakeable commitment to their future and the fate of their community. The Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation is paying of the scholarships for one student who has recently been cited for his “academic strengths, intellectual curiosity and contagious excitement.”

The Bronx Preparatory Charter School: The mission of the Bronx Preparatory Charter School is to prepare underserved middle and high school students for higher education, civic involvement and lifelong success through a structured, caring environment of high academic expectations. In addition to the other sports related donations, the Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation is proud to have outfitted the boy’s soccer team with their own uniforms.

The Trustees will continue to monitor the effectiveness of Foundation's grants and as the Foundation grows expects to add additional educational institutions to its grant list.

Of course Andrew's activities were far more varied than just education and so we have also made contributions to other not-for-profit institutions that reflect some of Andrew's other interests

The First Tee: The First Tee uses the sport of golf as a way to teach character building skills to children from all backgrounds. The Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation has joined with The First Tee to Connecticut to award two (2) four-year scholarships. The Andrew K. Dwyer Scholarships are awarded to two high school seniors who participate in The First Tee of Connecticut program, demonstrate academic excellence, are actively involved in their communities, and plan to continue their education at the college/university level.

Although Andrew hated to run, he loved the outdoors and skiing. The Foundation is reviewing applications for support from a number of outdoor organizations including NOLS, Deerhill, and Teton Valley Search and Rescue for appropriate grants.

Many of you know that the Dwyer Family has struggled with the disease of depression. Andrew was well aware of the many impacts of this insidious disease, and so the Foundation has provided a grant to help fund the Adolescent Depression Awareness program of Johns Hopkins to educate young people, teachers, and parents about teenage depression.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering Pediatrics Spring Prom: The spring prom is a fun day at Sloan-Kettering. Patients, family members, friends and staff join together to celebrate. The Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation provided tuxedos for the evening. In addition to the spring prom, Sloan-Kettering provides other holiday parties for the children in their care. The Andrew K. Dwyer Foundation plans to be part of many more celebrations.

Finally, I think most of you know Andrew was a dreamer and a romantic. We are supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Hudson Valley so someone with a life threatening medical condition can enjoy their dream. The Foundation has underwritten the cost of underwriting a child's wish.

As you can see, we have had a terrific year of funding to very worthy children. We are proud to have found programs that offer opportunities to deserving children and promote values that Andrew held so dear in his own life: education, sports and laughter. We thank you for your tremendous support and trusting us to find programs worthy of your generous donations.
